End of the year

Jun 22, 2018
The school year has ended, and LHS spring sports have come to an end. The Softball, tennis, and baseball seasons have come to an end. The Littleton High School Softball team made it to the first round of the NHIAA playoffs, but sadly lost to Wilton in their first and only game of the tournament. Hopefully they are able to build off from this season and make a good run into the tournament next year.

The Littleton High School Baseball team on the other hand ended up winning their first round game against Hopkinton. It was a tight game, back and forth through the whole game. The game went into extra innings and in the bottom of the ninth with the game tied 9-9, Nick Sanborn had a walk off hit to win the game and advance the Crusaders into the final four.

In the next round Littleton would face off against Wilton. Littleton started the game off early with a couple of runs, and then after holding off Wilton, they ended up getting the bases loaded with Quinton Ross coming up. First pitch of the at bat and Quinton hit a grand slam to send the Crusaders up 9-2. The Crusaders then coasted for the rest of the game and ended up winning with a final score of 9-4. After this game Newmarket defeated Pittsfield to face Littleton in the Championship game.

The Championship game was set and to be played at Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester.
Littleton traveled all the way to Manchester Saturday, June 9th.Even with the seniors just graduating in the morning, the team was focused on winning this last game. In the first few innings there was a sense of nervousness, until Danny Kubkowski came up with a clutch triple to put the Crusaders up. He would later score again to make the score 3-1. After this the Crusaders cruised through the game with Newmarket only ending up with 3 hits. The Littleton Crusaders were once again Division 4 Baseball State Champions. The Crusaders had won the state championship back in 2016 as well. Winning this year was a great way for the seniors to end their career as a Littleton Crusader.

Finally, spring sports kick off as the Littleton Girls Tennis team traveled all the way to Gilford to play Gilford on April 2, 2018. Littleton played very well and had a wonderful day as they won 6-3. The Lady Crusaders had a bit more depth to their team as Gilford had a few strong players but not enough to win the match. The Lady Crusaders have been working hard and are going to have a strong season if they continue this type of play.

The Baseball and Softball teams also had their first games Monday, April 8. The Boys had a rematch of last years quarter final game against Woodsville. Littleton again came out on top as they had great run support and a shutout pitching performance from Danny Kubkowski and Derek Walker. The highlight of the game came in the 4th inning when Quinton Ross hit a grand slam to left field. The Crusaders won handily with a final score of 14-0. The Lady crusaders also played against Woodsville and had a bit more tough time as they could not keep up with Woodsville. The Lady Crusaders played tough, but they couldn’t string hits together as they lost with a final score of Woodsville 12 Littleton 4.

After a few games getting postponed due to chilly weather, Littleton High School Tennis is back. The Littleton girls played against Inter-Lakes Tuesday, April 9. With a long bus ride and missing their number one player Susan Aubin, Littleton had a tough time winning their sets. Inter-Lakes played outstandingly as well, and it was a perfect storm of sorts as Inter-Lakes won 8-1.

The Littleton Boys Tennis team had a decent match against Gilford Tuesday, April 9. The Littleton boys were looking to do some damage as it was their first game of the year. Although they played pretty good, Gilford was better as they came out with the win, Gilford 6 Littleton 3. It was onto the next one for the Tennis teams as they came back strong against Berlin High School on Wednesday, April 11. Berlin is not doing so well right now and both the Littleton Girls and Boys came to play. Berlin was outmatched in both Matches as they lost 9-0 to the Littleton Boys and 9-0 to the Littleton Girls. The Littleton girls tennis team ends the week at 2-1 and the Littleton Boys are 1-1.
